Wheeler Block (Colchester, Connecticut)

The Wheeler Block, also known as the Old Town Hall and former Ransom School, is a historic building located at 40 Norwich Avenue in Colchester, Connecticut. Constructed in 1872, this 2+1⁄2-story structure exemplifies Second Empire architecture with its distinctive mansard roof and decorative features. Originally serving as a commercial space and the meeting place for the local Masonic lodge, it played a significant role in the community's social life. The building was gifted to the town in 1910 and has since been used as a school and town hall. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, making it a noteworthy site for visitors interested in local history and architecture.
