Green Lane Works

The Green Lane Works, located in the Kelham Island Quarter of Sheffield, England, is a historic industrial site established in 1795, renowned for its ornate Grade II* listed entrance gate, described by Nikolaus Pevsner as a remarkable example of factory architecture. Originally a manufacturer of ornamental stove grates, the facility gained prestige with awards at major exhibitions in the 19th century. The gateway, designed by sculptor Alfred Stevens, features intricate carvings and a triumphal arch design. Although the works faced challenges, including damage from the Great Sheffield Flood in 1864, it continued operations until 1948. Recently, the site has been revitalized into commercial spaces, blending history with modern development, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers alike.
