1993 World Trade Center bombing

On February 26, 1993, a truck bomb detonated in a parking garage beneath the North Tower of the World Trade Center, killing six people and injuring more than a thousand. Investigators determined the attack was carried out by a group including Ramzi Yousef; several conspirators were later arrested and convicted in federal court. The bombing exposed vulnerabilities in high-rise security and led to changes in building and law enforcement counterterrorism practices. The attack is one of the most significant earlier acts of terrorism on New York City soil.
