Huis ter Nieuwburg

Huis ter Nieuwburg, a former palace located in Rijswijk, Holland, was built between 1630 and 1636 for Prince Frederick Henry, a key figure in the Dutch Republic. Designed in the French Classicist style, the palace featured symmetrical architecture and was surrounded by formal French Renaissance gardens, which included ponds and tree-lined avenues. The site played a significant role in history as the venue for the Treaty of Ryswick negotiations in 1697. Although the palace was demolished in 1790, visitors today can explore the remnants of its gardens and the nearby Rijswijkse Bos, along with the commemorative Needle of Rijswijk obelisk, which honors the peace treaty that took place there.
