Hope Diamond at the National Museum of Natural History

The 45.52-carat Hope Diamond is part of the National Gem and Mineral Collection on long-term display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The blue diamond was donated to the museum by jeweler Harry Winston in 1958. The gem is widely known for its extensive provenance and folklore about a so-called curse, which historians and scholars debate. It is exhibited in a climate-controlled case in the museum's gem hall.
