New Pump House

The New Pump House, also known as the Byrd Park Pump House, is a historic Gothic Revival style pumping station in Richmond, Virginia, operational from 1883 to 1924. Built between 1881 and 1883, it features distinctive architectural elements such as steeply pitched roofs and Gothic arches. The site includes a Beaux Arts style Hydro Electric Pumping Station and an Italianate style pump house. Originally serving as a waterworks, it utilized hydraulic power from the James River and hosted social events in its open-air pavilion. After ceasing operations, it faced potential demolition but was saved and is now undergoing revitalization efforts, making it an intriguing site for tourists and researchers interested in industrial history and architecture.
