Edwin Bassett House

The Edwin Bassett House, located in Reading, Massachusetts, is a beautifully preserved example of Greek Revival architecture, built in 1850. It was the home of Edwin Bassett, a pioneering shoemaker who was the first in the area to adopt the innovative McKay stitching machine, which transformed local shoemaking from a cottage industry to an industrialized process. The house features distinctive architectural elements such as corner pilasters, a wide frieze, and a pedimented gable, along with a charming porch supported by Doric columns. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, this historic site offers a glimpse into the region's industrial past and architectural heritage.
