Soldiers and Sailors Monument

The Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Monument Circle was completed and dedicated in 1902 and stands approximately 284 feet tall. Designed by architect Bruno Schmitz with sculptural work by Rudolf Schwarz, it honors Indiana residents who served in the Civil War. The monument is the symbolic center of Indianapolis and includes an observation level open to visitors at times.
