Metropoliz

Metropoliz is a unique cultural and social hub located in a former salami factory on the outskirts of Rome, which has been squatted since 2009. It is notable for being the first large squat in the city where Romani people coexist with various ethnic groups, including Italians, Moroccans, and Peruvians. The site features the Museo dell'altro e dell'altrove metropolitano (MAAM), a contemporary art gallery that showcases the creativity of its residents and is open to the public on Saturdays. Metropoliz not only serves as a living space for around two hundred squatters but also as a symbol of community resilience and cultural exchange, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers interested in urban activism and contemporary art.
