Lewis and Harriet Hayden House (Abolitionist station)

The Lewis and Harriet Hayden House at 66 Phillips Street in Beacon Hill was the home of abolitionist Lewis Hayden, an escaped enslaved person who became a prominent Black civic leader in Boston. The Haydens' house is documented as a station on the Underground Railroad and a meeting place for abolitionist organizing in the mid-19th century. The site is part of Boston's Black Heritage Trail and interprets the Haydens' role in sheltering fugitive enslaved people and supporting abolitionist causes.
