Morris–Jumel Mansion

The Morris–Jumel Mansion, built in 1765, is the oldest surviving house in Manhattan and served as George Washington’s temporary headquarters in 1776. It later became the home of Stephen and Eliza Jumel; Eliza Jumel's life and death have been central to local ghost stories. Tour guides, staff, and visitors have reported sightings and unexplained noises attributed to former inhabitants, but such claims remain anecdotal and are subject to debate.
