Coastguard's Lookout Tower

The Coastguard's Lookout Tower, also known as Telegraph Tower, is a historic Grade II listed structure located on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly. Built between 1814 and 1816 as a signal station for the Admiralty, it was initially intended to facilitate communication between the mainland in Cornwall and local military defenses. Despite its strategic purpose, the tower was deemed unsuccessful and closed in 1816. It later became part of HM Coastguard operations in 1831 and evolved into a telegraph station by 1903. Today, the tower serves as a residential property, offering a glimpse into the maritime history of the Isles of Scilly and its role in coastal communication.
