Indianapolis City Market (Market Square site)

The Indianapolis City Market at this location occupies the historic Market Square, which Alexander Ralston designated in his 1821 Mile Square plat as the public market area for the new town. The current City Market building opened in 1886, while a public market has existed on this site since the 1820s. The market sits on the east–west axis established in Ralston's original city survey.
