San Pedro Springs Park and Payaya use of the spring

San Pedro Springs Park, one of the oldest parks in the United States, contains springs that historical accounts and archaeological evidence show were used by the Payaya people prior to and during early colonial contact. Spanish explorers recorded visiting the springs in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, noting indigenous presence at the site. The park today includes interpretation of its long history of native use of the springs and surrounding landscape. San Pedro Springs Park remains a documented location of indigenous settlement and activity in the San Antonio area.
