Big Tex illuminated fair icon and 2012 fire

Big Tex is a 55-foot tall cowboy statue that has been an illuminated symbol of the State Fair of Texas at Fair Park since 1952. The figure is traditionally lit at night during the annual fair and serves as a prominent visual landmark on the Fair Park grounds. On October 19, 2012, Big Tex caught fire and was destroyed during the fair; a replacement 55-foot figure was unveiled for the 2013 State Fair.
