Archaeological evidence at Barton Springs

Barton Springs and its immediate surroundings have yielded archaeological materials demonstrating human use for thousands of years; investigations in the area have recovered projectile points and other artifacts attributable to Archaic and later periods. Researchers and cultural resource surveys have documented prehistoric campsites and artifact scatters in the Zilker Park/Barton Springs vicinity, and the springs are recognized as a culturally significant place. The site is routinely considered during park management and construction to protect buried cultural resources.
