Fort Mason (San Francisco Port of Embarkation infrastructure)

Fort Mason served as a major Army post and the primary San Francisco Port of Embarkation in the early 20th century, especially during World War I and World War II. Much of the former military infrastructure-piers, warehouses, and parade grounds-was transferred to civilian use and is now the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. The site preserves early 20th-century reinforced-concrete piers and troop embarkation facilities that supported large-scale military logistics.
