Sam Houston Hall

Sam Houston Hall was a significant wooden structure in Houston, Texas, built for the 1928 Democratic National Convention. Designed by Kenneth Franzheim and Alfred C. Finn, it was notable for its size, spanning three football fields, and its unique features like heavy-duty fans for airflow. The hall served as a venue for the first Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from 1932 to 1936, attracting thousands of attendees during the Great Depression. However, it was also a racially-segregated facility. After its demolition in 1936, it was replaced by the Sam Houston Coliseum, and the site is now home to the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers.
