Ballard Locks fish ladder viewing windows

The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (commonly called the Ballard Locks) include a fish ladder with underwater viewing windows that allow visitors to observe salmon and other migrating fish moving between Puget Sound and Lake Washington. The locks complex also includes a visitor center and the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden adjacent to the lock operations. Watching the seasonal salmon runs from the viewing windows is a popular but somewhat hidden slice of natural history in the city.
