Attempted assassination of President Reagan - arrest of John Hinckley Jr.

On March 30, 1981, John Hinckley Jr. shot U.S. President Ronald Reagan outside the Washington Hilton; Hinckley was subdued and arrested at the scene and later charged with attempted assassination. The shooting wounded President Reagan and three others, including White House Press Secretary James Brady. Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1982 and was confined to a psychiatric facility for decades.
