Kungshuset

Kungshuset, or the 'King's House', is a historic building in Lund, Sweden, constructed between 1578 and 1584 by Danish King Frederick II as a residence for the bishop. Following the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, it became part of Lund University, founded in 1666 to promote Swedish influence in the region. King Charles XI donated the building to the university in 1688, and it served as the main university building and library until around 1800, featuring a theatre for anatomical demonstrations. The building also functioned as an observatory for the university's first astronomer. Despite local legends involving King Charles XII, the tower was added later in the 18th century. After years of neglect, it was restored in the mid-19th century by Professor Carl Georg Brunius. Until 2014, Kungshuset housed the Department of Philosophy and is located near the impressive Lund Cathedral and the university's main building.
