Dr. J. A. Gorman House

The Dr. J. A. Gorman House, also known as the Hanging Cottage, is a historic residence located in Mentone, Alabama. Built in 1922 as a vacation home, it features a stunning design that incorporates 55 windows and a spacious 15-foot wide porch, offering breathtaking views from its perch on Lookout Mountain. The house's unique nickname comes from its dramatic position on a 22-foot high rock wall. After serving as a home for local physician W. T. Cantrell from 1944 to 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in architectural history and local heritage.
