African Meeting House (Museum of African American History)

The African Meeting House at 46 Joy Street, built in 1806, is the oldest surviving Black church building in the United States and served as a major center for abolitionist organizing in 19th-century Boston. It hosted meetings and speeches by abolitionists, including events associated with figures such as Frederick Douglass, and is now part of the Museum of African American History. The building sits on the Black Heritage Trail in Beacon Hill and is interpreted as a site of Black religious and civic pilgrimage.
