Narkomtiazhprom Building

The Narkomtiazhprom Building, envisioned as a monumental structure for the People's Commissariat of Heavy Industry, was part of a 1934 architectural contest that attracted notable architects like Ivan Leonidov and Konstantin Melnikov. Planned to span over 400 meters in Red Square, Moscow, the building was intended to symbolize Soviet industrial power but was never realized due to technological limitations and the high costs of relocating existing structures. The contest entries ranged from classical to avant-garde designs, reflecting the architectural tensions of the era. Ultimately, the project was abandoned, and the site underwent various changes, leading to the construction of the Rossiya Hotel in 1967, which was demolished in 2006-2007.
