Brown–Proctor House

The Brown–Proctor House, built in 1881 in Scottsboro, Alabama, is a historic residence that showcases architectural evolution and local history. Originally constructed by John A. Brown, it was later owned by General Coffey and significantly renovated by politician John Franklin Proctor in 1907. Proctor's modifications included transforming the front portico and adding a three-room extension. The house has been preserved as a historical site, listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage and the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1985, it has housed the Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center, which highlights the rich history, traditions, and art of Jackson County, including exhibits on Native American cultures and the Civil War.
