Atlas (Rockefeller Center)

Atlas is a large bronze statue of the Titan holding a celestial sphere located in front of Rockefeller Center’s International Building; it was installed in 1937 as part of the complex’s original Art Deco ensemble. The sculpture sits above the sunken plaza facing Fifth Avenue and has become a widely recognized public artwork and meeting point in Midtown Manhattan. Its placement and scale were designed to complement the architecture of the Rockefeller Center development.
