Boustead Institute

The Boustead Institute, completed in 1892 in Singapore, originally served as a hostel for seamen, funded by businessman Edward Boustead. It was opened by the governor of the Straits Settlements and later transformed into the Harbour headquarters during the Japanese occupation. After the war, it briefly functioned as a courthouse for war crimes before reopening in 1947. In the late 1950s, it became home to the Toby's Paradise bar but was ultimately demolished in the 1970s for port expansion. This historical site reflects Singapore's maritime heritage and its evolution through significant historical events.
