Shiloh House (Benton Harbor, Michigan)

Shiloh House, built in 1910 in the Queen Anne style, is a historic structure located in Benton Harbor, Michigan. It was constructed by the House of David Colony, a religious commune founded in 1903 by Benjamin Purnell. This unique building was the first to utilize cement blocks made on-site, reflecting the innovative spirit of the commune. Originally serving as a residence for Purnell's favored followers, it later transitioned to office and dormitory use. The house features distinctive architectural elements such as a hip roof, round turrets, and elegant balconies, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in early 20th-century communal living and architecture. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
