USS San Francisco Memorial at Lands End

The USS San Francisco Memorial at Lands End commemorates the heavy cruiser USS San Francisco (CA-38) and its crew, who suffered heavy casualties in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942. The stone monument and dedicatory plaques honor the ship and its sailors and overlook the Golden Gate and nearby Sutro Baths ruins. The memorial and adjacent Lands End trails are maintained for public visitation and historical interpretation.
