Origins of the Phoenix Open at Phoenix Country Club

The PGA Tour event now known as the Waste Management Phoenix Open began as the Phoenix Open in 1932 and was first played at Phoenix Country Club. The tournament's early years in Phoenix established it as one of the longer-running professional golf events in the region. Over time the event moved to other area courses before settling permanently in neighboring Scottsdale.
