Mission San José and its acequia hydraulic system

Mission San José, founded in 1720 and now part of San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, includes an 18th-century acequia (irrigation) system that supplied water to mission fields and mills. The mission complex and its waterworks reflect colonial-era hydraulic engineering and landscape management developed by Spanish missionaries and Indigenous laborers. The surviving stonework, including aqueduct remnants and canals, is documented as an early local example of organized water-technology infrastructure.
