Cliveden (The Chew House, Georgian mansion)

Cliveden, also known as the Chew House, is a 1763 Georgian country mansion located in Germantown and built for the Chew family. The stone-faced, symmetrical house is a notable example of mid-18th-century Georgian domestic architecture in the Philadelphia region. Cliveden was the site of heavy fighting during the 1777 Battle of Germantown when British troops occupied the house, an event documented in Revolutionary War histories. The property is preserved and interpreted for its architectural and historical significance.
