Jack Yates High School (named for Reverend Jack Yates)

Jack Yates High School is named for Reverend Jacob 'Jack' Yates, a formerly enslaved man who became a prominent community and spiritual leader in Houston's Black community after emancipation. The school, long serving students in the Third Ward, carries Yates' name in recognition of his leadership and civic work. The current Jack Yates High School campus is located adjacent to other historic Third Ward institutions and remains a landmark in the neighborhood.
