Beaulieu, Newport

Beaulieu is a historic mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, built in 1859 by Peruvian merchant Federico Barreda. Designed by renowned architect Calvert Vaux, it features 16 bedrooms and luxurious amenities. The mansion has a rich history, having been owned by notable figures such as John Jacob Astor III and Cornelius Vanderbilt III. After years of social prominence, it fell into private hands and is currently owned by the family of a former U.S. Ambassador. Although not open to the public, Beaulieu remains a significant landmark reflecting the opulence of the Gilded Age.
