Palace of Fine Arts

The Palace of Fine Arts was built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition and is a Beaux-Arts structure designed by Bernard R. Maybeck that functions as a monumental public landmark and exhibition space. Its colonnades, rotunda and surrounding lagoon are intended as public architectural sculpture and have been restored several times, most recently in the 1960s and 2000s. The site is frequently used for public events, photography, and as a prominent example of early-20th-century exposition architecture in San Francisco.
