Space Needle rotating restaurant (SkyCity) opened with 1962 World's Fair

The Space Needle was built for the 1962 Century 21 Exposition (World's Fair) and its rooftop rotating restaurant opened with the attraction that year. The restaurant's rotating dining room was an early example of midcentury futuristic restaurant design and has been part of Seattle's dining landmark ever since. The Space Needle helped shape Seattle's national image and tourist food culture from the 1960s onward.
