Nuthall Temple

Nuthall Temple, located in Nottinghamshire, was an 18th-century architectural gem inspired by Palladio's Villa Capra. Completed in 1757, it showcased a unique blend of Neo-Palladian and Rococo styles, featuring a grand 58 ft high hall beneath a central dome. Designed by Thomas Wright for Sir Charles Sedley, the house underwent alterations by James Wyatt in 1778. Despite its historical significance, Nuthall Temple faced decline and was demolished in 1929, with its remnants cleared in 1966 for the M1 motorway. Today, the site lies beneath a slip road at Junction 26, but its legacy as a notable example of late Palladian architecture endures.
