Portal Fernández Concha

Portal Fernández Concha is a historic seven-storey Neoclassical building located on the south side of Plaza de Armas in Santiago, Chile. Built in 1871, it originally housed a premier hotel and featured a shopping arcade designed by notable architects. The building has undergone several renovations, including a significant remodel in 1928 that added Art Deco elements. Once a fashionable retail center, it has evolved over the years, with its upper floors transitioning to residential and commercial spaces. Today, it hosts a contemporary art gallery and various shops, though many original European restaurants have been replaced by fast food outlets. The building was declared a national monument in 1986, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Chilean history and architecture.
