Rothko Chapel

The Rothko Chapel is a non-denominational chapel founded by John and Dominique de Menil that opened in 1971. The interior houses 14 large paintings by Mark Rothko, installed to create a contemplative, dimly lit space. The chapel serves as an interfaith and cultural venue and is noted for its influence on contemporary spiritual and public art. It remains an active site for programs, exhibitions, and interreligious dialogue.
