Busboys & Poets as a literary and community hub

Busboys & Poets, founded by Andy Shallal in 2005 at this location, is an independent restaurant, bookstore, and performance space known for hosting author readings, poetry slams, and community meetings. The flagship venue on 14th Street became a gathering place for local writers, activists, and artists and helped popularize a multi-location cultural brand in the D.C. area. The site regularly programs political, literary, and arts events that engage diverse community audiences.
