Houston Bar Center Building

The Houston Bar Center Building, located at 723 Main Street in downtown Houston, Texas, is a historic office building that originated from the merger of two skyscrapers, the Rusk Building and the Gulf Building, constructed in 1913 and 1915. In 1966, it was transformed into a single ten-story tower by architect Eugene William Slater, showcasing a New Formalist design that blends modernism with classical architectural elements. The building features elegant materials like granite and marble, and its design includes a first-floor canopy and marble pilasters, reflecting a classical influence. Recognized for its architectural significance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. In 2019, the building became home to the first AC Hotels location in Houston, making it a notable destination for both tourists and researchers interested in the city's architectural heritage.
