Watergate break-in at the Watergate complex

On June 17, 1972, five men were arrested for breaking into the Democratic National Committee offices located in the Watergate complex, a break-in that initiated investigations leading to President Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974. The break-in occurred in offices within the Watergate office complex, and subsequent reporting and congressional inquiries connected the burglary to a White House cover-up. The Watergate complex remains identified with that 1972 event and its political aftermath.
