Old State House - site of the Boston Massacre

The Old State House at the intersection of Washington and State Streets was the location adjacent to the March 5, 1770 altercation known as the Boston Massacre. The building, dating to 1713, served as the seat of colonial government in Massachusetts and now operates as a museum interpreting that colonial history. A marker and exhibits at the site note the confrontation and its role in Revolutionary-era tensions. The Old State House remains a documented and frequently visited historic landmark in downtown Boston.
