Knickerbocker (Spokane, Washington)

The Knickerbocker is a historic Beaux Arts building located in Spokane's Cliff/Cannon neighborhood, designed by architect Albert Held and completed in 1911. Originally financed by mining magnate Graham B. Dennis, it was intended to be the finest apartment house west of New York during a time of rapid population growth in Spokane. The building features an H-shaped design with red brick and terra cotta trim, including ornate facades and courtyards. Once a luxurious residence with services akin to a grand hotel, it fell into disrepair by the late 20th century. However, significant restoration efforts began in 2010, leading to its recognition on the Spokane Historic Register in 2015. Today, the Knickerbocker stands as a testament to early 20th-century apartment living and architectural elegance in Spokane.
