Peleg Arnold Tavern

The Peleg Arnold Tavern, built around 1690 in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, is one of the oldest homes in the area. Originally constructed by early settler Richard Arnold, it was later expanded by his descendant Peleg Arnold, a notable figure who served as a justice on the Rhode Island Supreme Court and a representative to the Continental Congress. During the American Revolution, the tavern became a hub for military operations in the town. Recognized for its historical significance, the tavern was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it an intriguing site for tourists and researchers interested in early American history.
