Woodland (Huntsville, Texas)

Woodland is a historic house located on the grounds of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Built starting in 1847, it served as the residence of Sam Houston, a key figure in Texas history, until 1859. The house, a classic dogtrot structure, features a central breezeway and has been preserved as part of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum, recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Visitors can explore the house, which showcases Houston's life during a pivotal time in Texas's journey to independence and statehood, along with a reconstructed kitchen outbuilding and his former law office.
