Bobastro

Bobastro, located in the Province of Málaga, Spain, is a historic castle with origins dating back to Roman times. In the 9th century, it became the stronghold of Umar ibn Hafsun during his rebellion against the Caliphate of Córdoba, attracting local Muwallads and Mozarabs who opposed heavy taxation and mistreatment. The site features remnants of a church built by the rebels, which stood until their autonomy ended in 928. Although the castle was still in use in 1147, it fell into ruins by the 13th century, making it a fascinating site for tourists and researchers interested in medieval history and the dynamics of rebellion in early Islamic Spain.
