Substation 219

Substation 219, also known as the Harlem Substation, is a historic electrical facility located in Harlem, New York, built in 1932 by the Independent Subway System. This Art Deco style building features striking architectural elements such as a low brick parapet, limestone coping, and a decorative frieze with diamond-shaped limestone pieces. The main entrance showcases aluminum doors adorned with geometric motifs characteristic of the Art Deco movement. Recognized for its historical significance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in architectural history and the development of New York's subway system.
