Darby Plantation (Edgefield, South Carolina)

Darby Plantation is a historic house in Edgefield, South Carolina, built by Nathaniel Lipscomb Griffith for his daughter Anne Patience Griffith. The plantation features a striking wraparound porch supported by twelve columns and spacious main rooms with high ceilings. Notably, Milledge Luke Bonham, who married Griffith's daughter, served as a U.S. Congressman and later as governor of South Carolina during the Civil War. The house also served as a storage site for Charleston Museum artifacts during the war. Since 1878, it has been owned by the Wise family and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Southern history.
