Ely Building

The Ely Building is a historic architectural gem located in Porto Alegre, Brazil, recognized as a cultural heritage site. Constructed between 1922 and 1923 by architect Theodor Wiederspahn, this eclectic-style building showcases Germanic influences with Renaissance and Baroque elements. Spanning approximately 8,000 square meters, it features a stunning facade adorned with tall windows, balustrades, and a prominent statue of Mercury. Originally a commercial space for merchant Nicolau Ely, it now houses a construction materials store. Despite facing challenges from urban development, the Ely Building remains a significant symbol of Porto Alegre's architectural history and cultural identity.
